The Zucchini Fry-Up

Standard

My zucchinis are doing so well I can’t keep up with their production rate. Last weekend we went to a dinner party and instead of the usual bouquet of flowers brought,  you guessed it; two zucchinis. To curb the growth a little bit,and try something new, I decided to deep-fry some zucchini flowers. (Be careful when you deep-fry; remember to keep a lid handy and make sure you are not distracted.) Advice on the internet said to use a batter of 50% flour and 50% beer and let it rest for 3 hours. I mixed a batch after breakfast and set of to the plot to do some work. Last thing I did before I went back for lunch was to pick a few zucchini flowers. They literally wilt in your hand, so I had my doubts about how it would all turn out. Just to be sure I pinched off some day lilies (Hemerocallis) as well. I had no reason to worry; the batter was perfect and both the zucchinis flowers and the day lilies were absolutely delicious.
